Absolutely! Your needs and the Olympic athlete’s differ by degree not kind. Increased power, strength, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, flexibility, stamina, coordination, agility, balance, and coordination are each important to the world’s best athletes and to our grandparents. The amazing truth is that the very same methods that elicit optimal response in the Olympic or professional athlete will optimize the same response in the elderly. Of course, we can’t load your grandmother with the same squatting weight that we’d assign an Olympic skier, but they both need to squat. In fact, squatting is essential to maintaining functional independence and improving fitness. Squatting is just one example of a movement that is universally valuable and essential yet rarely taught to any but the most advanced of athletes. This is a tragedy. Through painstakingly thorough coaching and incremental load assignment JONO Athletics has been able to teach anyone who can care for themselves to perform safely and with maximum efficacy the same movements typically utilized by professional coaches in elite and certainly exclusive environments.

Yes that is not a problem. We understand that gyms are intimidating. That is one of the reasons for the on ramp program. (see on ramp for more details) In a nutshell, it is a beginner’s introduction into JONO Athletics and our programming. A welcoming atmosphere where everyone is there for the same reason – to meet some great people, interact with the trainers, gain knowledge and skills – before joining the group classes. After the on ramp you can decide if JONO is for you or not….but we know you’re going to love it!

NO. We are well aware that a lot of folks will be coming into the gym who are not in shape. This will not affect your ability to perform the workouts. You will notice that the most in shape people in the box at some point in the workout will be just as tired as you are! As one of the goals for JONO Athletics we promise to whip your butt into shape!

Yes. At JONO Athletics we will provide a safe and effective program for everyone. However, that does not mean that the possibility to get hurt is not there. Anything worth doing is going to be hard and bring with it a measure of risk. We will do everything to make sure that the risk is a bare minimum. We have trainers who will train you before hand in the on-ramp program and be able to give advice before and during the workouts to ensure you’re in the best possible position to stay safe and healthy.

A common and fair question. Most gyms offer a membership for between $40-60 a month. With no service except for the ability to use the equipment. Anything above that is extra cash and the fees can be very high. Average personal training sessions in Sydney run in-between $20-50 an hour. At JONO Athletics we charge a $110 membership before taxes which gives you a personal trainer every day you walk into the box who has prepared your work out beforehand and taken the proper measures to ensure you can do the workout safely and effectively. If you were to compare the service prices of CrossFit JONO to another gym in town, the competitor’s price would be about triple the price! We believe we are offering a fantastic program with great trainers, top-notch facilities, and equipment at a very competitive price.

Jonny Carabin is the brother of the owner Josh Carabin. Jonny, besides being the coolest person on the planet, was in unreal shape! He was disciplined, consistent, and committed to training. In the summer of 2010 Jonny was killed in a motorcycle accident. JONO Athletics is a small way for us to remember Jonny boy and draw from the same mentality that he had for fitness. Feel free to ask questions about Jonny… We love him and enjoy remembering and talking about him with anyone!

The simple answer is no. But it does not mean you will not gain muscle. If someone wants to gain a large amount of muscle there is some pretty specific programming and more importantly diet changes that have to be made for that to happen. There is no question you are going to gain muscle and lose fat but a lot of what you gain will be up to you. If you eat like you want to gain lots of muscle then your body will move in that direction. If you eat like you want to stay lean and trim then your body will move in that direction. If you want both (like myself) it is a longer process than sticking to one or the other but it will happen with dedication and hard work! We are able to tweak the programming to help you create the body you want! At JONO Athletics we are here to see you healthy, strong, and fit for whatever life brings your way.

Kickstart is our women's only program and a great way to “Kickstart” your fitness journey!
With so many options out there we decided to design a program that was both functional and perhaps a little more than what you would normally get anywhere else.
Kickstart is a strength and conditioning program not fundamentally different than our other high intensity programming, but without question different. We steer away from the intimidating heavy barbells and higher level gymnastics work and focus on the basics of training.
Each class is run by a certified coach with your best interest in mind. Coaches are present to run the classes, teach new movements, ensure proper movement standards are upheld and intensity levels are appropriate for whatever level our members are at. Group classes are an hour long and are made up of a Warm up, Strength specific component, and Workout.
Success in either of our programs is guaranteed with consistency and hard work!
Class times are:
Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays @ 9:30AM, 1PM and 7PM on any of those given days.
Cost for Kickstart is $85 per month after tax.
